The European Commission has awarded €7.4 million to three media consortia to report on EU affairs over the next two years.

The selected “European Media hubs” were chosen after an open call for proposals published in 2025, the Commission said in a statement on Wednesday.

One of the projects, Project BEAM, is coordinated by Arte and will produce audiovisual pieces and in-depth articles, with partners including Internazionale and Gazeta Wyborcza.

A second project, PULSE 2, is coordinated by the Centro per la Cooperazione Internazionale/Osservatorio Balcani Caucaso Transeuropa and will focus on cross-border online journalism, with participating newsrooms including HVG and HotNews.

Lens EU, the third project, is coordinated by OKO.press and includes consortium members such as AFP and TVNET, and will produce weekly podcasts and in-depth newsletters.

Part of wider “Multimedia Actions” funding

All three projects will operate with full editorial independence, according to the Commission.

The funding comes under the EU’s “Multimedia Actions” programme, which supports the production and consumption of independent information on European affairs in multiple languages across the bloc.

A total of €21.1 million will be made available under the same budget line through calls for proposals to media consortia supporting debate in the European public sphere and media freedom and pluralism.
