The EU has urgently opened a public consultation survey to gather input from professionals linked to Atlantic ports on how ports can adapt to climate change.

The questionnaire is part of Pillar I of the EU’s Atlantic Action Plan and is intended to collect views, experience and priorities from people working with ports across the Atlantic area, the Commission informed in a release on Wednesday.

Responses will be used to support the development of a practical methodological guide on climate change adaptation that can be applied across different types of port and operating contexts.

The Commission said it wants the guide to set out key steps for assessing climate risks and identifying adaptation measures in ports.

It is seeking information on climate impacts that ports are already experiencing, what measures are in place, and what barriers ports face when trying to prepare for climate-related risks.

The survey also asks what is needed to make the future guide usable in day-to-day port operations, and how it can reflect different port types — including fishing, commercial, recreational and industrial ports — and activities such as logistics and refrigeration.

Who can take part and how

The survey is open to all professionals connected to Atlantic ports, regardless of technical background, the Commission said.

Participants are asked to base their answers on the type of organisation they work for, their main area of work, and the type of port they know best.

The consultation opened on 18 March 2026 and closes on 20 April 2026, with completion expected to take about 10 minutes. Responses are anonymous.
