The European Union has supported the Gambian government to launch a web-based system to track implementation of the country’s Recovery-Focused National Development Plan.
The tool is designed to help monitor progress, with a focus on transparency, accountability and evidence-based decision-making, the European External Action Service reported on Thursday.
“A system is only as good as the information it contains,” EU Ambassador Immaculada Roca i Cortés said at the launch, adding that its success would depend on institutions regularly inputting “accurate and timely data”.
Mod A.K. Secka, Permanent Secretary at The Gambia’s Ministry of Finance and Economic Affairs, said the launch “affirms our commitment to transparency, accountability, and evidence-based planning”.
The system was funded by the EU with €493,346 and is built on DHIS2 — a widely used open-source data platform — which has already been used in The Gambia’s health and education sectors.
Tracking 237 indicators
The platform tracks 237 indicators across seven pillars of the Recovery-Focused National Development Plan and enables real-time data collection, analysis and reporting across government institutions.
Targeted training for government officials is also included as part of the initiative, alongside support for a transition to programme-based budgeting, according to the statement.
