The European Commission has proposed changes to EU rules on energy and tyre labelling, with public feedback open for eight weeks until 15 October 2026.
The draft law, adopted on 24 June 2026, would simplify Regulation (EU) 2017/1369 on Energy Labelling and Regulation (EU) 2020/740 on Tyre Labelling, the Commission said in a release on Friday.
Energy labels are the standard information labels shown on products such as household appliances to indicate energy performance, while tyre labels provide information such as fuel efficiency and other tyre characteristics at the point of sale.
The Commission said the proposal is intended to make the rules “simpler and more effective” to implement, without changing the underlying requirement that customers must be able to see energy and tyre labels where products are sold.
Feedback period and next steps
Feedback on the proposal and its accompanying impact assessment — a document setting out expected effects of the changes — is open for eight weeks and will close on 15 October 2026, according to the same statement.
All responses will be summarised by the European Commission and sent to the European Parliament and the Council.
The Commission has directed the public to submit feedback via its “Energy-efficient product legislation – Omnibus simplification” webpage.
