The European Commission has awarded a €1.48 million contract to Rhodium Group SAS to monitor China’s economic policy and track developments affecting economic relations between the EU and China, including building and maintaining a foreign direct investment database.
The contract was awarded by the Commission’s Directorate-General for Trade (DG TRADE) and is listed as an economic research services deal, the Commission informed in a release on Friday.
It covers the “China Observatory” work programme, with the database element focused on foreign direct investment — when a company or investor takes a lasting stake in a business in another country. The contract runs for 48 months.
Eight bids submitted
Eight tenders were received in the open procedure, with all eight submitted electronically, according to the Commission’s published notice.
Rhodium Group SAS, based in Paris, was selected as the winner.
The value of all contracts awarded under the notice was €1,483,500, excluding VAT, and the winner was chosen on 8 July 2026.
The award notice was published in the EU’s Official Journal on 21 August 2026.
