The EU has allocated an additional €16 million in humanitarian aid for people affected by conflict in Myanmar and for Rohingya refugees and their host communities in Bangladesh.
The funding will support assistance for communities facing rising needs as fighting continues to drive displacement within Myanmar and across its borders, the European Commission disclosed in a statement on Friday.
In Myanmar, EU support will focus on food assistance, healthcare and nutrition, with the Commission citing a worsening food crisis linked to conflict, projected effects of the Super El Niño weather pattern, higher fuel prices and recent flooding.
In Bangladesh, the money will prioritise food security and healthcare, as well as protection services for refugees in camps, where services are under pressure from new arrivals from Myanmar.
Displacement and wider EU funding
More than 4 million people have been forced to leave their homes within Myanmar, while around 1.2 million refugees in Bangladesh continue to live in precarious conditions, according to the Commission.
The €16 million package comes on top of more than €50 million in humanitarian aid for the crisis in Myanmar and its regional impact across Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia and India since January 2026.
It also follows more than €23 million already allocated in humanitarian assistance to Bangladesh this year.
“The suffering in Myanmar and the plight of Rohingya refugees must not be forgotten,” Commissioner for Equality, Preparedness and Crisis Management Hadja Lahbib stated.
