Piotr Michałowski has been appointed as the European Investment Bank (EIB) Group’s new head of office in Poland, taking up the post in Warsaw on 1 September.
Michałowski has worked at the EIB Group since 2008 and specialises in financing for public and private sector projects, with experience in financial instruments designed for different parts of the economy, the EIB said in a release on Friday.
He will work on the EU’s development bank priorities in Poland, including social and territorial cohesion, resilient infrastructure and the energy transition. The remit also includes developing security and defence projects.
Poland is “one of the largest beneficiaries” of EIB Group financing, vice-president Marko Primorac said.
Michałowski “brings the experience and leadership needed” to deepen the partnership and support a new generation of investments in the country, Primorac added.
Investment in Poland and recent deals
The EIB Group has invested more than €110 billion in Poland so far and has signed new financing agreements totalling more than €5 billion a year on average in recent years.
In 2025, €2 billion was allocated to building offshore wind farms in Poland alone.
This year, the EIB Group has supported AI innovation at online marketplace Allegro and backed the construction of an onshore wind farm by power utility TAURON.
It has also signed agreements intended to improve small and medium-sized enterprises’ access to capital.
The European Investment Fund (EIF) — part of the EIB Group — has co-launched the Future Tech Poland fund to boost equity investment in high-growth technology companies.
Michałowski previously served as the EIB Group’s representative in Poland from 2015 to 2021 and most recently worked at the group’s Luxembourg headquarters on equity financing for innovative projects and higher-risk growth companies.
