An upcoming debate in Brussels aims to address potential infiltration and influence by the Russian Government within the MEP ranks.

In a public letter, French lawmaker Hayer insisted on the need for transparency, highlighting the importance of exposure for any individuals who may have been funded or corrupted by Russian proxies.

Echoing these sentiments, Dutch Green EU lawmaker Bas Eickhout has called for an investigation into candidates running in the European election in June.

He stressed the necessity of ensuring no one is in the pockets of Russia; and time is of the essence with the elections just 10 weeks away.

While the Parliament’s largest influential political groups, the European People’s Party and Socialists and Democrats, have held back from making statements, a representative for Metsola from EPP confirmed the president’s awareness of the allegations and ongoing assessment of specific claims.
