A resident of a Red Cross reception centre in the Secova area (covering Chaudfontaine, Esneux, Sprimont, Aywaille, Trooz) was seriously injured on Saturday morning during a breakfast-time incident, according to judicial authorities in Liège.

Initial findings indicate that an altercation broke out between two residents. While one was serving coffee, the other, a 25-year-old man, reportedly struck the victim’s head violently with a cup.

The blow to the temple resulted in an open wound and a medically significant incapacitation. The victim, who did not retaliate, received medical attention from emergency services. The alleged attacker, who is not well known to the police, was swiftly apprehended.

The individual will appear before an examining magistrate this Sunday on charges of intentional assault. An investigation is ongoing to clarify the precise circumstances of the attack.
