Hidden Belgium: A war walk in the Ardennes

Hidden Belgium: A war walk in the Ardennes

You can find several walks in the Ardennes that take you through the forests and fields where the Battle of the Bulge was fought in the winter of 1944.

One of the most informative rambles is marked out around the village of Notre-Dame de Foy. Beginning at the church, it leads you across a landscape where the German war machine eventually stuttered to a halt in the frozen Belgian fields.

The course of the fighting is explained in a series of information panels along the 7km trail.

You pass a château used as an American base, learn about two Belgian hunters who crept out at night to pinpoint German positions, and see the spot where the German tanks finally ran out of fuel.
