Hidden Belgium: The Wan and Only

When the owners of trendy Bodo restaurant took over Ghent’s oldest cafe (dating back to 1639), locals were worried that the place might change. But the new owners resolved to keep the ancient interior and authentic Ghent atmosphere. The wooden bar, old card tables and photos of football teams are all still in place.

The only thing that has changed is the name. Its original Dutch name De Wan has been replaced by De Wan and Only.

There is now a menu with typical Belgian dishes served with a contemporary twist. And a DJ. The result is a cool new spot for a local beer and a pot of mussels.
