Hidden Belgium: The Oldest Pharmacy in Bruges

Even a mild headache gives you an excuse to enter the beautiful Apotheek Dryepondt opposite the cloth hall in Bruges. It might look like a museum, but it is an authentic chemist’s dating back all the way to 1835.

It’s worth stepping inside just to admire the tiled floor, wooden counters and rows of brown medicine jars, including some that have survived from the early 18th century.

The owner keeps a guest book with over 2,000 messages by pharmacists from more than 100 countries who have dropped in to admire the place.
