Hidden Belgium: Books and Brunch

Hidden Belgium: Books and Brunch

Tabitha Ackaert and Jos Deroo have created a cool second-hand bookstore away from the crowded city centre of Bruges.

It’s the perfect spot for bookworms with hundreds of used books displayed on pale green shelves. Mostly Dutch, obviously. But there are also English books in an upstairs room.

The owners serve healthy brunch and lunch food, including homemade soups, bagels, quiches and desserts. They admit the food can be slow, but then you can always pass the time reading something you have found on the shelves.

They have also created a little playroom at the back of the store with cute toadstool chairs. And the gentle indie rock playing in the background makes this the perfect spot for a romantic date.

Derek Blyth’s hidden secret of the day: Derek Blyth is the author of the bestselling “The 500 Hidden Secrets of Belgium”. He picks out one of his favourite hidden secrets for The Brussels Times every day.
