A man was stabbed in Sint-Pieters-Leeuw (Flemish Brabant) on Tuesday afternoon in a case of traffic aggression, Belga News Agency reports.

The case was first reported by several media outlets and later confirmed by the Halle-Vilvoorde Public Prosecutor's Office.

"At around 17:00 on Tuesday, an incident of traffic aggression occurred between a 54-year-old pedestrian and a 20-year-old car driver," said the Public Prosecutor's spokesperson Ingrid Moriau.

The incident occurred near the crossing at the intersection of the Bergensesteenweg with the Ruisbroeksesteenweg in Sint-Pieters-Leeuw.

"The person wanted to cross the road via the pedestrian crossing with a child and a dog," the spokesperson said. "The car driver allegedly did not stop to let them cross. The pedestrian got angry and hit the vehicle. The car driver got out and an argument ensued between the pedestrian and the car driver. The pedestrian then pulled a knife and stabbed the driver."

The car driver was taken to hospital for treatment and his condition is stable, according to the Public Prosecutor's Office.

The perpetrator has been arrested and will appear before the investigating judge on Wednesday.
