Four French nationals were arrested on Thursday during a robbery at a tobacco shop in Menen, West Flanders, according to the Public Prosecutor's Office in Kortrijk.
Two Renault vehicles had arrived shortly after 9 a.m. on Thursday at the tobacco shop on Moeskroenstraat in Menen, near the French border.
The suspects, who appeared to be using stolen vehicles with stolen Belgian number plates, allegedly threatened the owner with a hammer and a screwdriver, but no firearms were used during the robbery.
The Grensleie police arrested the four men at the scene.
After questioning, three of the men, aged 24, 24 and 21 will be brought before the investigating judge in Kortrijk on suspicion of robbery. The judge will decide on Friday whether they will be remanded in custody.
The fourth suspect, a 16-year-old, will be brought before the juvenile court in Kortrijk.
