One person's life in danger after police chase in Schaerbeek

The Brussels-North police zone chased a vehicle that was reported to the judicial authorities late Tuesday morning, the driver was seriously injured and his life is in danger, according to the police.

The Brussels-North police zone had carried out a check on a black Mercedes with a German license plate. The chase ended at Place de la Patrie in Schaerbeek at around 11:30 at a crossroads, with shots having been fired.

"The Brussels North police zone intervened to control a vehicle on its territory, following a report of this vehicle in the context of a judicial file," said Audrey Dereymaeker, spokesperson for the zone. "During this intervention a chase took place and shots were reportedly exchanged," she said.

The driver of the vehicle was injured and was taken care of by the emergency services. "His life is in danger," the spokesperson continued. "The passenger of the vehicle was transferred to the police station. No police officers were injured.
