The Belgian Football Association (RBFA) has unveiled its new 'Fuel the Flames' campaign to inspire young girls to pursue their football dreams, coinciding with the selection announcement of Elisabet Gunnarsdottir.

The launch took place on Wednesday at Asse-Terheide, a fourth division club where Kassandra Missipo first played football.

Missipo attended the press conference and reflected on her early football journey. “Being selected for the Euro here today is truly special,” said the midfielder proudly. “I used to watch the Asse-Terheide pitch from my room and dream of playing there. Back then, not many girls played football. I never imagined discussing a European Championship with the Red Flames before the press here. It’s a dream come true; truly a special day.”

Elisabet Gunnarsdottir, the Icelandic coach, was also charmed by the local club. “Clubs like these tell a lot about how players grow. There are likely many such small clubs across Belgium. Many Flames probably began their journey on fields like this one. We want our campaign to highlight and thank these clubs, parents, grandparents, volunteers, and youth coaches. It’s a tribute to everyone working behind the scenes. Young people mean a lot to us; we want to inspire them.”

“The women’s game has evolved tremendously in recent years,” added the Icelandic coach. “I only started here in January, but it’s immediately clear that the Red Flames hold significant importance for the federation. We receive great support, and these passionate players and I aim to keep exciting the fans.”
