Belgian tennis player David Goffin has dropped 40 places to 85th in the world ATP rankings, which were released on Monday by the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP).

The Liège native lost 250 points that he earned last year when he won the ATP 250 tournament in Marrakech, Morocco.

Goffin (ATP 85) was eliminated on Monday in the first round of his debut at this week’s Masters 1000 in Monte Carlo. The 32-year-old Belgian number one was beaten 6-4, 6-2 by Argentina’s Diego Schwartzman (ATP 37) who will face 21-year-old Italian Jannik Sinner (ATP 8), a finalist at the Miami Masters 1000 a fortnight ago, in the second round.

In the top 10, the other change is the gain of a place by Norwegian Casper Ruud (4th seed), winner of the Estoril tournament on Sunday, in a ranking where Novak Djokovic is the world's number one player. The 35-year-old reclaimed his throne last week in a head-to-head battle with 19-year-old Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz (ATP 2).
