The second edition of Brussels Urban Sessions will be held from 6 to 9 July in  Josaphat Park in Schaerbeek.

Top-level athletes in sports such as parkour (overcoming urban obstacles), skateboarding and breakdancing will be in action. The park will also be the venue for a UCI BMX freestyle qualifying event for the Paris Olympics.

“It’s a major high-level sports event, with several competitions,” Sessions organiser Matthieu Gheysen said at a press conference on Thursday.

The wide range of urban sports on show will attract a host of international athletes to the Belgian capital. “Young people and children have the opportunity to talk to these athletes; it’s a unique chance,” Gheysen said.

BMX world champion Hannah Roberts from the USA believes this is what makes the Brussels event so special.  The athletes rub shoulders with the fans, which isn’t the case at other events, she explained. “I’m excited about coming back to Brussels, especially because there’s a huge opportunity to qualify for the Paris Games.”

The event is free and aimed at both families and amateur athletes. Places must, however, be booked online.

In addition to urban sports, the festival will also feature music and street art.
