The ‘Coalition of Willing’ for Ukraine is ready to mobilise once a ceasefire between Moscow and Kyiv is achieved, according to British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and French President Emmanuel Macron.
The coalition, comprising around 30 Western countries, aims to provide security guarantees to Ukraine following a peace agreement. The leaders announced that the force’s headquarters would first be located in Paris and rotate to London after the first 12 months.
“Supporting Ukraine is not just the right thing to do, it’s essential for delivering security at home,” Prime Minister Starmer said. “That is why the Coalition of the Willing is ensuring we have a future force that can deploy following a ceasefire to deter Russian aggression for years to come.”
The Coalition forces will assist in rebuilding Ukraine’s land forces, securing its airspace, and supporting safer seas, particularly in the Black Sea, according to a press release issued by the UK Government after a virtual meeting Prime Minister Starmer and President Macron had on Thursday with the Coalition.
Participants in that meeting included U.S. representatives such as President Donald Trump’s Ukraine envoy, Keith Kellogg, and Senator Lindsey Graham.
“As we continue to prepare for peace, our focus must also be on making it happen,” Starmer said. “So, alongside our partners, in the coming days and weeks, we will step up our support to keep Ukraine in the fight now, increasing pressure on Putin through crippling sanctions and ensuring Ukraine’s Armed Forces have the equipment they need to defend their sovereign territory.”
