Dutch journalist Geert Groot Koerkamp, a correspondent for the VRT in Russia, can no longer work there, the Dutch public broadcaster NOS announced on Thursday evening.
The move appears to be retaliation against a decision by Dutch authorities not to renew the residence permit of a Russian correspondent in the Netherlands.
Although his accreditation has been revoked, Koerkamp will still be allowed to reside in Russia, where he has been living and working since the early 1990s.
At a press conference on Wednesday, a spokesperson for Russia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that they were willing to reconsider the decision “if the Dutch government creates appropriate conditions for the Russian journalist to work there,” according to NOS.
