A daring passenger managed to board a commercial aircraft in Munich, Germany, without a ticket, two days in a row, and fly to Stockholm, local police reported on Tuesday.
Airport police have launched an investigation into the 39-year-old Norwegian for public disturbance and fraudulent transport, a police spokesperson in Munich said.
The investigation aims to explain how the individual managed to bypass the automatic boarding card control before security checks, an airport spokesman explained.
On 4 August, the traveller slipped through ticket inspection at boarding by standing very close to another passenger, popular daily Bild reported. He then boarded a flight to Hamburg, North Germany, with other passengers. His deception was only noticed because the flight was full and he did not have a seat.
He was subsequently handed over to the police, who opened a case against him, but released him.
Just a day later, the man repeated the same tactic, successfully boarding another plane. This time, he managed to reach Stockholm on a Lufthansa flight that was not full.
In the Swedish capital, however, he was eventually arrested by police after attracting attention when he expressed a wish to immediately return to Munich.
The man posed “no danger,” and, according to the investigation, was not trying to “disrupt air traffic,” the police spokesman added.
