In an interview aired on NBC on Sunday, US President Donald Trump stated he is not seeking a third term, intending instead to hand over leadership to “a great Republican” after completing his four years in office.
When asked about the possibility of a third term, which the US Constitution prohibits, Trump clarified, “That’s not what I’m looking to do.” He added that he hopes to serve “four great years and make way for someone else, ideally a great Republican,” despite having previously alluded to a third term since his return to the White House.
In the same interview, Trump expressed uncertainty about adhering to the US Constitution. When asked if he should abide by it, he remarked, “I don’t know.” When questioned about whether foreigners in the US should be granted due legal process as prescribed by the Constitution, the Republican billionaire also stated, “I am not a lawyer. I don’t know.”
