Moscow has stated that a ceasefire with Kyiv is contingent on the United States and the European Union halting their arms deliveries to Ukraine, according to the Kremlin on Saturday.

“If not, it would advantage Ukraine,” Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov argued during an interview with US network ABC.

He added that Ukraine “would use a ceasefire to continue its general mobilisation and bring new troops to the front,” while several European leaders meet in Kyiv to urge Russia to cease hostilities.

“Why would we grant such an advantage to Ukraine?” questioned the spokesperson, asserting that Moscow has the upper hand and is advancing in its offensive.

Peskov also expressed hope that US President Donald Trump would continue to leverage his influence over Kyiv to progress in negotiations, claiming that “Ukraine is trying to evade the talks.”

A three-day truce was ordered by Russian President Vladimir Putin to mark the victory over Nazi Germany. This pause, which both sides accuse each other of breaching, is scheduled to end on Saturday evening.
