City authorities announced they are closing all parks and public spaces from 18:00 on Wednesday as public forecasters warn of gale-force winds predicted to approach 'violent storm' levels over the North Sea by Friday.
National weather bosses earlier warned they were weighing the issue of a full 'orange' storm alert with sea winds predicted to reach up to 130 kph going into the weekend.
A red flag at the top of the Brussels Environment website said the closure will be reviewed on Thursday morning, amid "the risk of trees toppling over".
Winds are expected to reach speeds of 90 kph already on Wednesday night, according to Belgium's Royal Meteorological Institute which manages the measures taken in the public interest when faced with dangerous weather conditions.
