Summer 2022 set a new record in France, with 33 days of excessive heat registered from June to August.

This year's series of extremely hot days began on 15 June, the earliest heat wave ever recorded, according to a report presented on Tuesday by weather forecaster Météo-France.

The average temperature this summer - June, July, August - was 2.3°C above seasonal norms, making it the second hottest summer on record since measurements began in 1900.

Météo-France warned that towards the year 2050, France can expect about half of its summers to be like that of 2022 or even hotter.
