Six activists from the Just Stop Oil group used fire extinguishers to spray orange paint on several buildings in London on Monday morning.

The group once again called on the UK government to stop all oil and gas licences. Police arrested eight people.

The sprayed buildings include the Bank of England, the headquarters of the MI5 (secret service), the Home Office and the headquarters of News Corp, a Rupert Murdoch-owned media company that also includes The Times and The Sun.

The four buildings represent the four pillars that support and sustain the power of the fossil fuel economy – government, security, finance and media, Just Stop Oil tweeted. “We are done begging," the group said, adding that it was taking action to stop new oil and gas "because it is the right thing to do.”

“As human beings, we have every right to protect ourselves and those we love,” Just Stop Oil added.

This is the 31st day in a row that the group is protesting against fossil fuel mining.

According to a UK police spokesperson, officers have already arrested 651 people since 1 October in connection with the protests.

Last weekend, activists also blocked streets in London, causing resentment among some motorists.

Earlier, the group daubed Vincent Van Gogh’s painting ‘Sunflowers’ with tomato soup.
