Twitter employees must commit to working hard in the future if they want to keep their jobs: they are now required to sign a form in which they promise to work “long hours at high intensity”.

The company’s new owner, Elon Musk, sent a link to the form in an e-mail to staff at midnight on Tuesday (Wednesday morning in Belgium), US media reported.

Twitter "will need to be extremely hardcore," he wrote. “Only exceptional performance will constitute a passing grade.”

“If you are sure that you want to be part of the new Twitter, please click yes on the link below," Musk said in the email. "Anyone who has not done so by 5pm ET tomorrow (Thursday) will receive three months of severance."

This latest announcement from Musk could lead to another wave of departures. Since he took over Twitter at the end of October, the businessman has already let go of half the workforce.

Local media report that IT engineers who contradict their new boss are still being fired.
