Activists in Paris on Friday sprayed paint on a statue by Charles Ray, an important figure in contemporary American sculpture.

The environmental movement 'Dernière Rénovation' claimed responsibility on Twitter for spraying orange paint over the 'Horse and Rider' statue, which depicts a man on horseback and is located in the square of the Bourse de Commerce.

“Eco-vandalism has taken off,” Culture Minister Rima Abdel Malak said on Twitter. She also thanked the restorers for intervening quickly.

'Dernière Rénovation' is part of the A22 network, an international movement of climate organisations in Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
