A series of letters written by Bob Dylan nearly 65 years ago to a childhood sweetheart have been sold for nearly $670,000 (about €647,000).

The 42 handwritten letters were sold by the Portuguese bookshop Livraria Lello, the Boston-based auction house RR Auction said.

Dylan wrote the letters to his girlfriend Barbara Ann Hewitt between 1957 and 1959, while they were in high school. At that time, the American singer-songwriter, who is now 81, was still called Bob Zimmerman.

In the letters, he already confided his intention to change his name. He also confessed that he hoped to sell a million records one day. He ended up selling more than 125 million …

The letters also mention the singer’s other passions, cars, clothes and, of course, music. There are also excerpts from poems.

The letters were found by Barbara Ann Hewitt’s daughter in 2020, after her death.
