Accenture consulting firm to cut 19,000 jobs worldwide

Accenture wants to cut some 19,000 jobs worldwide, about 2.5% of its workforce, the international consulting firm announced on Thursday.

Accenture said it has earmarked $1.2 billion for severance and other payouts. Another €300 million would be used for the reorganisation of office space.

Accenture has offices in almost 50 countries. It also operates in Belgium but it is not yet clear whether its Belgian operations are affected by the restructuring.

Accenture is not the first company in the consulting and advisory services sector to announce recently that it is tightening its belt. McKinsey is planning to cut 2,000 jobs while KPMG has announced plans to lay off nearly 700 people in its US division.
