‘Lady with a Fan,’ a work by Austria’s most famous painter, Gustav Klimt, broke the record for a European auction in London on Tuesday, selling for £74 million (more than €86 million).
Sotheby’s, which organised the sale, described the work, one of the last paintings by Klimt (1862-1918), as not only the star of the summer auction season in London, but also one of the most beautiful and valuable ever offered in Europe.
