A record jackpot of $1.73 billion was won on Wednesday evening in the US Powerball lottery. This is the second-largest jackpot in U.S. lottery history.
The winning ticket was purchased in the small town of Frazier Park, California.
The winner can choose to cash in $756.6 million all at once – the amount of the winnings after tax – or receive the reward in annual payments spread over 30 years.
The biggest jackpot ever won in the United States dates back to November 2022, when a player, also from California, won $2.04 billion in the Powerball.
