A 14-year-old Dutch boy tragically died in Austria following a skiing accident, as reported by the Austrian police and covered in the regional newspaper, Tiroler Tageszeitung.

The teenager was on a family skiing holiday in the Hochoetz region. Around 13:50, he ventured off alone to ski on a red trail, falling in the process and somersaulting 25 metres off the marked ski piste.

He was found severely injured by another skier. Despite attempts to resuscitate the boy by this fellow skier and a ski lift operator, their efforts were unsuccessful.

Paramedics from a medical helicopter then took over the resuscitation attempts but to no avail.

Hochoetz is located in western Austria, roughly 60 kilometres from the popular winter sports resort of Innsbruck.
