Several individuals have been taken hostage in Ede, the Netherlands on Saturday morning, sparking a major police response which includes evacuations and lockdowns in the city centre.

The local police confirmed the ongoing hostage situation within a city-centre building in Ede, announced in a statement on social media platform X.

Specific locations and the exact hostage count remain undisclosed. According to local news outlet De Gelderlander, the local police were alarmed about an incident in a café named Petticoat on Saturday morning.

Dutch Police have said that the perpetrator poses a significant danger to himself and others, without mentioning a potential weapon. At this stage, there are no indications that this is a terrorist act.
