The first Belgian Fire Games in search of the best team of firefighters

Several firefighting teams from the 34 emergency zones of Belgium, the six sites where the Civil Protection is located, and the Fire Department will face off Saturday at Campus Vesta, the firefighter training center located in the province of Antwerp, in the first edition of the Belgian Fire Games. In addition to being a competition between the different fire departments, the event will also serve as a team building exercise to facilitate the upcoming merger of the emergency zones. On January 1st, 2015, the 250 fire departments will be merged into the 34 emergency zones.

The Belgian Fire Games are an initiative of the Federal Public Service (FPS) Interior. Teams of six from different areas and fire departments will compete in six events, such as an obstacle course, rescue and resuscitation, and the construction of a dam using sandbags.

In entering the contest, the Belgian firefighters will have the opportunity to win their way to the World Fire Games which will be held from June 26th to July 5th, 2015 in Fairfax, Virginia (USA). The price includes registration, transportation and housing, all worth a total of 15,000 euros.
