The theme for Mons 2015, the European Culture Capital, is “Metamorphosis”. At a press conference/show on Tuesday, the2015 Mons Foundation presented the complete program. The show, which took place in front of 200 Belgian and foreign journalists, consisted of 10 acts. The 2015 Mons Foundation took this time to reveal the strong points of its cultural program scheduled for next year in the capital of Hainaut and 18 partner cities such as the French cities of Maubeuge and Valenciennes and the Flemish cities of Mechelen and Kortrijk.
Each act was punctuated by the arrival of a TEC bus depicting, with local actors, a highlight of the year 2015. The first bus depicted the nano-dance (dance with hands) “Cold Blood” which will be held from December 8th to the 13th, 2015 at the Roundabout Theatre. The second act depicted”La phrase” a gigantic text that will travel across the downtown area.
The program will give voice to who are either from the area or lived in the area. The painter Vincent Van Gogh will be the focus of an exhibition at Beaux-Arts de Mons (BAM) starting January 25th. The house where the artist lived, located in Cuesmes, will be open to public in February 2015. One week will be devoted to the classical composer Orlando di Lasso (XVI century), his music will be played in bars and cafes in the city. Verlaine, who wrote most of his masterpieces in the prison of Mons, will also be celebrated at BAM in October, 2015.
Five museums will open their doors also during the year, including the Museum of Mons.
