Last of transfers from Charleroi hospital to Lodelinsart

The last 48 patients due to be moved from Charleroi hospital to the new Marie Curie hospital in Lodelinsart, were transferred without incident on Sunday. The Charleroi site was then symbolically closed shortly after noon. On Saturday, 89 other patients were relocated, mainly the most difficult cases from neonatal services, cardiac surgery and intensive care. An line of ambulances was set up and followed by an emergency response vehicle and a police escort.  The shuttles were a regular occurrence throughout Saturday.

The emergency department of the Marie Curie hospital, which opened its doors on Saturday at 6p.m., saw around thirty cases during the course of the night between Saturday and Sunday. The final patients were transferred from Charlerois to Lodelinsart early Sunday morning. The final convoy between the two sites was greeted by a guard of honour when it arrived at Lodelinsart and at about 12:30p.m., a large beam was placed across the Charleroi site entrance by the authorities of the ISPPC (Charleroi Intermunicipal Public Health Service) as a symbolic gesture to mark the closure of the site.
