From now on the domain names .brussels and .vlaanderen are available to all. Anyone can apply for a domain name with the new extension, on a “first come first served” basis, reported DNS Belgium (which manages .be domain names as well as the 2 new ones on offer) on Tuesday. The 2 new extensions were made available in 4 successive phases, starting last summer, “in order to give various local entities the opportunity to register a domain name which reflects their identity (brand, trade name, company name or surname)”, adds DNS Belgium.
In the last phase, which ended on January 15th, people were able to apply for a domain name an unlimited number of times, but domains have not been allocated yet.
Names with only one applicant have been allocated, whereas the approximately 100 domain names with more than one applicant will be allocated by auction.
