“Alken-Maes sets its prices completely independently, by taking into account the economic situation at the time and the company’s planned investments”, responded the Belgian brewer on Friday, after the Belgian Competition Authority opened an informal investigation into price increases by AB InBev and Alken-Maes. Alken-Maes, who manages brands such as Maes, Cristal, Grimbergen and Affligem, announced it intends to fully cooperate with the investigation and answer questions from the Competition Authority in relation to price increases.
The Competition Authority conducted a similar investigation in 2012. The investigation concluded that there was no price-fixing between AB Inbev and Alken-Maes.
