Belgium 23rd in the IMD competitiveness table

Belgium is 23rd in the yearly IMD table. IMD is the prestigious Lausanne business school. Each year they draw up a world competitiveness ranking. Belgium has gone up 5 places, putting an end to a continuous fall in its competitiveness over the last few years, L’Echo reported on Thursday. Belgium has improved on pension financing, going from 57th place to 30th, and the legislation on unemployment. For that category, it goes from second from bottom last year to 55th this year.

It is, however, second from bottom for landline and mobile phone costs. Unfortunately, Belgium is also well known for its taxes: income (59th) as well as business (56th) taxes.

The efficiency of Belgium’s energy infrastructure has worsened (40th) along with internal production (40th) and Belgium’s capacity to meet future needs (47th).
