The State Council is considering raising the retirement age to 67

The State Council is debating a proposed law that would raise the legal retirement age to 67. “It is a very complex bill, which is not very clear”, it said. The text must be approved by the Chamber’s Social Affairs Commission, De Morgen said on Monday. The law would not only raise the legal retirement age, it would also make pre-retirement plans less beneficial and conditions for workers harder.

The State Council is wondering if this text contradicts social security ideals. The bill would “modify the current legislation on pensions, which could seem like going backwards”, it says.

The State Council also criticises the fact that functionaries, workers and freelancers will all have different regimes. “It is a very complex bill, which is not very clear and therefore difficult for citizens to understand”, it says.
