Flanders wants gender neutral toilets to help transgender people

Flanders wants to put gender neutral toilets in its official buildings in the future, so transgender people will feel more comfortable. The Flemish Minister for Equal Opportunities, Liesbeth Homans, talked about it in her response to a parliamentary question from Flemish MP Piet De Bruyn. “These toilets would go a long way to making transgender people feel at ease at work”, she said. She was quoted in the Het Nieuwsblad on Thursday.
Cavaria, the association that defends the LGBT community, applauded the initiative. “We could avoid delicate situations where a transgender person undergoing the change process has to go to the toilet, when they are not totally a man or a woman yet”, the association explains.
A special logo could be put on the toilet doors, to show everyone can use them.
