More than 10,000 people attend the 4th “Namur, beer and pâté capital”

Around 10,000 to 12,000 people attended “Namur, beer and pâté capital”, on the Place Grognon in Namur. There were more than 4,000 visitors on Friday, around the same on Saturday and a little less on the Sunday. These figures come from Emilien Watelet from Naumr-Events, which organised the event. There were less people than last year, but it was still a success. People particularly liked the beers brought over from Quebec, which was the guest region for its 4th year. There were no incidents. The event offered 156 different beers over the three days, as well as pâtés and finger food. There were also concerts, and games for children.

“The public was open-minded, and it worked really well”, says Emilien Watelet. There were various animations held, such as a blind beer tasting and a blind test.

This year, you had to pay to get in (1 euro) so the organisers could cover their costs. They have had to deal with some tough financial setbacks. “We are no longer subsidised by the town or the province. And our subsidy from the Namur Province Tourism Federation has been reduced (from 5,000 to 3,000 euros)”, explains Emilien Watelet.

The Beer2Beer event for professionals held on Sunday worked very well. “There were around 70 entries from nine different countries. 300 meetings took place today”, he added.

The organisers hope to organise a fifth event, but archaeological digs and building work taking place in Grognon during 2016 might interfere. They might hold it on the Citadelle esplanade.
