72-year-old Belgian leads poker world championship

A Belgian is currently leading the World Series of Poker, 5 days into the competition. He is one of the last 69 players left in the competition and is “chipleader”, which means he has the greatest number of chips compared to his opponents. His name is Pierre Neuville and he is aged 72 from Knokke-Heist. He is the only Belgian left in the Las Vegas competition.

The championship started out with 6,420 players from 80 different countries, each betting $10,000 to begin with. The first prize is $7.68 million (6.9 million euros). Given his current ranking, Pierre Neuville is sure to win at least $96,445 (87,047 euros).

The World Series of Poker will see another 2 days of competition. The last table with 9 players will play in November.
