The “Belgian” who was seriously injured when he was shot in the centre of Barcelona on Tuesday is actually a Russian with a fake Belgian passport, Spanish authorities have discovered. The Mediahuis papers reported on the story on Thursday. The man was shot in the stomach, and later taken to hospital. He said his name was Tom Janssens, and he apparently travelled through Spain on a fake passport. “I’m not feeling good. I don’t really know what happened”, he said in Dutch over the phone on Wednesday. The Mediahuis papers say the man could have lived in Belgium or the Netherlands, which would explain why he speaks Dutch.
The Home Affairs Minister said everything points to it being a revenge shooting to do with the drug trade.
