The level of threat against police officers and police premises was finally lowered after several months on Monday, reports daily De Tijd on Tuesday. The level-3 (red) alert reached following the dismantling of the Verviers terrorist cell in January was downgraded to a level-2 (orange) alert. The Home Office’s crisis unit will rule on appropriate security measures on Tuesday.
A level-2 threat implies an attack is possible but unlikely, whereas a level 3 reveals the threat is real and serious.
At the same time, Ocam (Threat Assessment Coordination Body) raised the threat level from 1 to 2 for reception centres for asylum seekers after an increase in attacks on refugees in some neighbouring countries.
