Drunk driver falls asleep on a lane of the E42 highway

The Federal Police took action during the night of Tuesday to Wednesday, after an immobilized van was signalled on the third band of the E42 highway in Heppignies (Fleurus). When the police arrived, the vehicle had left but was intercepted in Fleurus. The driver, drunk, was actually asleep in his car in the middle of the highway. His licence has been withdrawn from him.

On Wednesday around 2:35 a.m., the Federal Traffic Police was called by witnesses that had noticed an immobilized van. It seemed to have crashed nearby the E42 highway exit at Heppignies, in the direction Mons-Liège. When the patrol arrived at the scene, the vehicle had left, but a lorry and a car driver were able to inform them. After some difficulties, the van could therefore be intercepted before the exit to Fleurus while zigzagging dangerously.

The driver is a brewer who had partied in La Louvière and got lost on his way home in Morlanwelz. He had actually fallen asleep on the third lane of the highway, endangering the lives of other road users. Obvious intoxicated, the man got his driving license withdrawn for 15 days.
