Belgian bank Crelan hit by a 70 million Eur fraud

Crelan bank has been hit by a fraud organized from another country. The total losses amounts to 70 million Eur, the bank indicated on Tuesday morning while reassuring that none of their clients have been affected. The fraud was uncovered following an internal investigation and the public authorities were subsequently informed.

Additional security measures have been put in place “in order to reinforce the procedures for internal security”, a spokesperson from the bank indicated.

“Thanks to ample reserves, Crelan can comfortably manage this loss without it affecting any of our clients or partners in anyway. The intrinsic profitability of the bank remains unchanged”, Luc Versele, the CEO of the bank, said.

“As long as investigations are in process, the bank will not provide additional information on the matter”.
