Yesterday (Wednesday) the federal government announced the distribution of the remaining 50 million euros, being part of the original 400 million made available in November 2015.
This is to be used in the fight against radicalism, violent extremism and terrorism.
More than 23 million euros have been put towards additional legal fees caused by measures taken against terrorism and radicalism. Moreover, 21 million euros have been put towards the deployment of military personal in the streets, otherwise known as Operation “Vigilant Guardian”.
Two million euros have also been allocated to central government security in foreign affairs but also for various diplomatic posts, as well as providing military support for these posts. Moreover, 13,805 euros were released for the purchase of arms for seconded protection agents assigned to Belgian ambassadors.
The sum of 500,000 euros has been put towards implementing a business incubator project for aspiring entrepreneurs in Molenbeek, as well for an efficient victim reporting system during crisis situations.
Funds have also been devoted to strengthening prosecution services, crisis centres and OCAM (the Coordinating Unit for Threat Analysis).
